Join the Movement Reconstructing Richmond is more than a documentary — it's a movement. It's about culture, community, repair, and reconstruction in real time. Follow the project and join our email list to get on-the-ground updates, invitations to community gatherings, and ways to be part of the work as it unfolds.

Traditional film financing asks filmmakers to answer to investors. We're asking something different by inviting you to become part of this work from the beginning. Like the community leaders and organizations this film documents, this effort is itself an act of reconstruction. We are building something together.

Where Your Support Goes

To reach this point, our team has personally invested in the initial filming, including sit-down community interviews, a fundraising sizzle reel, and Altars Festival coverage, allowing us to build a strong foundation while maintaining creative independence and staying accountable to the values behind the work.

In May 2026, we launched a Reconstructing Richmond Seed & Spark crowdfunding campaign during First Fridays in Jackson Ward — and the community answered. In a matter of weeks, supporters helped us raise more than $26,000, surpassing our crowdfunding goal with funding towards the next phase of production.

Reaching our first goal is just the beginning. The work ahead is real: continued filming across Richmond, more community interviews, and research, leading to our capture of Altars Festival this November 2026. A feature documentary of this scope takes $150,000 to $200,000 to finish — including professional editing and post-production, archival footage, photography and music licensing, animated maps and motion graphics, and festival delivery. Future funding campaigns will carry us through post-production and distribution into the marketplace.

The most powerful thing you can do right now is stay with us — your support and engagement propel our momentum. Reconstructing Richmond is more than a documentary — it's a movement, and it's still being built.
